Horse Share
We all love to come and enjoy the horses but we do need to remember that they, as we, have minds of their own. When you bring your child for lessons, come on in an “sit a spell”, its fun to watch the kids as their confidence grows while riding these beautiful animals.

"Whoa" - or shall I say WOW did we have a good time today!
We want to give a big THANK YOU to the following people for stepping in and helping us out this weekend. Katy, one of our Carroll Students stepped in and taught the novice 3 class for us. We had a great time! Grace cantered Ray and looked like a pro! I must add I trotted Splash and was very excited to overcome that "little" fear I had. Thanks Katy.
Kim and Mikayla Stewart along with Mckenzie Chatriand took over the novice one and two classes for us. They too did a great job and we are so thankful for them.
The kids rode great today and I think all had a good time. If you were there during the Novice 2 class we just want to let you know that later in the day Auri did get back up on Austin!! Way to go Auri!!!
If you have a chance, stop by the barn and see how far the "kids" room is coming along. We now have electricity, heater and thermostat and some sheet rock up. We are so thankful to Home Depot for the supplies and for Eric Copeland, Brandon Steinagel and Brent Perschon for all the hard work.

Copy of letter sent out
Dear Horse Share Families,
We hope you had a great 2010 and we’re excited to get 2011 up and going down here at the arena. We have some new information along with some reminders. Let’s start with the reminders: 1) It is imperative that you stay at the arena while your child is in class; 2) The children are not allowed out and around the premises without an adult. Both of these rules are for your Childs safety.
Please remember to contact the leaders of your child’s class if your child will not be attending (names and numbers are listed at the bottom of this paragraph). We have a long waiting list for these classes, and if your child misses three classes without any notification we will need to remove your child so that another child can ride. Classes will again be starting on time. If your child is in Novice 1 please have your child at the arena at 2:00pm. If your child is in Novice 2 your child needs to be at the arena at 12:45pm. Again, the same for Novice 3 (Sherrie Petty’s class) please be at the arena with your horse saddled and ready for the 11:00am class. The contact names for classes are: Sherrie Petty (novice 3 class) - 461-9483 Jen Ockey (Novice 2 class and now for Novice 1) - 461-7751. These Ladies, along with Mikell and the other girls who help with the classes are donating their time so please be courteous and call if your child will not be able to make it.
We are in need of a parent who would donate their time to be the adult supervisor over the Novice 1 class. The duties include answering questions from other parents, watching the class as a whole for safety purposes, and helping Mikell Petty (the teacher) as needed. Mikell handles these classes very well and is fun to work with. Please let Susan Moss know if you would like to help out.
In the office at the barn we have a whiteboard that has the class times, class roster and the horses that are assigned to the children. We also have a helper assigned to each child/horse. (Lori and Jenny, since the two of you already help your kids during lessons we have your name, as the helper, next to your childs name.)
Horse share work days are still scheduled for the 3rd Saturday of every month beginning at 8:00am. Normally we don’t have classes on these days but since the kids haven’t ridden for awhile we will have classes along with the work day on January 15th. We have these work days to help with the duties around the grounds and as a trade off for riding lessons. We are so thankful for your help with these work days.
Thank You!
Jen

Weather Conditions for Riding
It is my oppinion that if the weather isn't 20 or warmer that we do not have the little kid classes. As far as the morning classes, we have been riding when it was 10 or above and doing ok. You really need to dress for it, however, and I have had some that are not comfortable riding at that temp. If it is warm enough to ride, be sure to still wear a lot of layers. Long john (not cotton is preferable) under you jeans, a long sleeve, preferable not cotton thermal top, and poly fleece sweater on top of that and a real coat, not just a sweat shirt, all you teenagers, gloves, hat (a think poly fleece that can go in your helmet is best) and warm socks. Don't wear socks that are too tight for your feet in your boots or your feet will get cold anyway. We can still have fun in this weather if we do a good job outfitting ourselves. Watch the weather. If you have any questions about whether we are riding or not, give Jen or Sherrie a call.
